Cross-Platform Embeds: Supported Specs, Integrations, and Limitations
Overview:
Use this guide when you want to deploy the same Genuin embed configuration across multiple environments - web, mobile web, native apps, and (optionally) partner surfaces, without rebuilding or re-governing the experience per platform.
Cross-Platform Embeds are primarily onsite embeds designed for owned web and app experiences. They can optionally be extended offsite (for media or advertising partners), but the core model remains centralized, first-party, and governed through Brand Control Center.
This matters because brands increasingly operate across many surfaces, but:
- Content strategy should not fragment by platform
- Governance should not weaken offsite
- Measurement should remain unified
Cross-Platform Embeds solve this by separating what the embed is (content, rules, governance) from where it renders (platform-specific behavior).
What Are Cross-Platform Embeds?
Cross-Platform Embeds are embed configurations created in Brand Control Center that can be rendered across different environments while sharing the same:
- Content scope (brand, community, group)
- Feed logic (standard, contextual, continuity)
- Moderation and brand-safety rules
- Measurement and reporting model
Onsite vs Offsite Clarity
- Onsite Cross-Platform Embeds These are embedded inside owned properties:
- Desktop web
- Mobile web
- Native iOS and Android apps They support the full range of feed intelligence, engagement, and continuity features.
- Offsite Extensions (Optional) Some Cross-Platform Embeds can be extended offsite to partner or advertising environments. These are not full-featured embeds - they are constrained, partner-safe renderings with limited interaction and tracking.
Important: Cross-Platform Embeds are not the same as offsite ad units. Offsite support is an extension of an onsite-first embed model, not a replacement.
Where Cross-Platform Embeds Are Used
Common use cases include:
- Reusing the same brand or community feed on desktop and mobile web
- Deploying identical feeds inside iOS and Android apps
- Extending selected feeds to media or advertising partners (where enabled)
- Activating campaign or seasonal embeds across multiple owned touchpoints
Outcome: Users experience continuity and familiarity, even as they move across devices, while brands retain control.
Supported Platforms & Integrations
1. Desktop Web (Onsite)
Integration
- JavaScript embed
- iFrame embed (for restrictive environments)
Note: Genuin recommends JavaScript-based embeds for the best compatibility and user experience. iFrame implementations may have platform-specific limitations, particularly on iOS devices, affecting video playback and rendering behavior.
Capabilities
- All layouts (grid, carousel, feed, wall)
- Brand, community, group, contextual feeds
- Full engagement (reactions, comments, shares)
- Linkouts and commerce actions
- First-party tracking and reporting
Best for: Discovery pages, PDPs, editorial hubs
2. Mobile Web (Onsite)
Integration
- Responsive JavaScript embeds
- Adaptive iFrame embeds
Capabilities
- Vertical video (9:16) optimization
- Scroll-first interaction
- Tap-to-expand playback
- Performance-aware loading
Best for: Mobile PDPs, category pages, campaign landing pages
3. Native Mobile Apps (Onsite)
Integration
- Genuin iOS SDK
- Genuin Android SDK
Capabilities
- Native UI rendering
- Contextual and continuity feeds
- Deep linking to communities and profiles
- App-safe autoplay rules
- Device-level tracking
Best for: App home feeds, in-app communities, post-purchase journeys
4. Offsite & Partner Environments (Extension Only)
Integration
- Offsite extensions
- IAB-compatible units (where enabled)
Capabilities
- Fixed-size creatives
- Controlled engagement actions
- Partner-safe autoplay and redirects
- External tracking integrations
Constraints
- No contextual or continuity feeds
- Limited engagement and moderation
- No cross-session memory
Best for: Media partners, campaign amplification, paid distribution

Configuration in Brand Control Center
Cross-Platform behavior is managed from one embed configuration in the Brand Control Center.
You define:
- Embed type (brand, community, group, contextual)
- Layout and view settings
- Engagement and redirection rules
- Media playback behavior
- Tracking and reporting controls
Platform-specific differences are automatically handled by:
- Web embed logic
- Responsive rendering rules
- SDK-level constraints
- Offsite safety limitations
Tracking & Measurement
Cross-Platform Embeds support:
- Unified impression and view tracking
- Engagement metrics by platform
- Conversion and linkout attribution
- Platform-level performance comparisons
This allows teams to understand how the same embed performs differently across surfaces.
Known Limitations & Considerations
Platform Constraints
- Autoplay restrictions vary by browser and OS
- Engagement and reporting are limited offsite
- Generative continuity may require SDK support
Performance
- Avoid heavy layouts on low-bandwidth mobile
- Enable floating playback selectively
Governance
- Full moderation and auditability apply onsite
- Offsite environments enforce stricter controls
Summary
Cross-Platform Embeds enable brands to scale onsite video and community experiences across web and apps - with optional, controlled offsite extensions, without duplicating effort or losing governance.
By combining centralized configuration in Brand Control Center with platform-aware rendering, Genuin ensures your embeds:
- Feel native on every surface
- Behave correctly per platform
- Remain brand-safe, measurable, and governed
One embed strategy. Many surfaces. No loss of control.
